RISING

Music has the power to return the Self to the cosmic source. In Hindu cosmology, mantra (divine sound) is the mother of yantra (sacred pattern) and vibration—the origins of form. Tantra is the realization of mantra and yantra within one’s own body as the very flow of consciousness.

Tantra—along with other mystic and indigenous spiritual traditions of the world—realized the sonic universe and our pulsing vibratory body long before Max Planck and Albert Einstein revealed the unseen pulsing quantum world’s underlying reality.

In the Tantric tradition, the energy of awakening is said to rise up the spine through the body’s seven chakra centers. Chakras—the energetic nexuses or “wheels” of energy—hold the spectra of light waves and sound frequencies. These spectra encompass the low, slow bass and deep red associated with the sacrum (or muladhara chakra) up to the high frequency treble and violet that resonate in our upper skull (or ajna-sahasrara chakra).

Music has the power to attune our body and entrain our inner rhythms. When we look at the images of sound projected into water or in fine granules upon a “cymascope”—a speaker designed to see sound waves (known as cymatics)—we see yantra patterns similar to the chakras.

Sound has long been used in ancient healing traditions to affect the most subtle origins of any disease and facilitate inner resonance individually and collectively. Rising is based on the power and science of using music to shift and elevate the deepest layer of our consciousness in positive ways.

Alex Theory is a rare musician/composer who has a doctorate in the cutting-edge field of Psychoacoustics—the study of how sound affects our physiology and consciousness. I love his pioneering dedication to the science of sound and to the reawakening of the knowledge of ancient sound systems within modern music.

The music on Rising follows the spiral of the chakras and uses the principles of rhythmic entrainment and sympathetic resonance to harmonize the energy field of the listener. We begin with the deep muladhara chakra invocation of the first track, which is tuned to a harmonic overtone of the Schumann Resonance (Earth frequency), and then each subsequent track spirals upward according to the Golden Ratio, literally rising through the elemental chakra frequencies to the cosmic merging. Additionally, Alex has embedded the tone of each of the original vowel sounds of the earliest chakra system into the frequencies of the music that unfolds.

From our collaborations in our teacher training on “Chakra Vinyasa,” Alex brings multiple layers of genius, having absorbed not only the Tantric background but also the sequencing of inner states.
